When Turkish-based, luxury resort and spa chain Rixos Hotels launched their expansion into Dubai, we were approached to create a unique and relevant event to showcase the quality of their brand. The theme we designed reflected the importance of the Turkish ‘caravanserai’ refuges – havens of rest, security, commerce and cultural interchange – to ancient traders as they travelled the Silk Road from China to Europe.
The VIP gala dinner for 250 guests was themed entirely in silk, from the invitations and menus to the décor of the ballroom and the pre-function area. Custom-branded chair covers and embroidered, silk table cloths added to the ambience. Speeches and presentations were broadcast simultaneously on two large screens on either side of the main stage.
During the evening, guests were treated to a mixture of cultural presentations and entertainment, from Arabic and Western flute performances to the main event of the evening, popular, Turkish, singing-star Sibel Tuzûn, who represented her country at the Eurovision Song Contest that year.
